A sunny summer evening in Derbyshire provided home club Stanton Ilkeston a lesson in both finishing and defending. In the first half Rolls Royce looked like scoring every time they went forward, and were aided by some non-existant marking. Stanton had chances of their own, in particular a glaring missed header when only 1-0 down. Pick of the goals was a blistering free kick which left the home keeper rooted to the spot as it flew into the top corner. The second half was a stalemate, with both sides creating very few opportunities. At least I had the pleasant company of Neil from Belper, which made the half pass a little quicker.
The Arthur Fisher Memorial Ground is home to Nutbrook Cricket Club. On arrival I wasn't sure if I was at the right place, until I saw a couple of men walk across the cricket pitch carrying goalposts.
